About

By Tommy Leung at 08/11/2008 in Uncategorized

Most of us don’t live the life of a professional athlete. We don’t make a living by practicing or working out. It is often a miracle that we even have time to go to the gym. Still, we haven’t lost the desire to be in great shape. We want to look good and live well. At least, that has always been a desire of mine.

My name is Tommy. I’m not a bodybuilder or a professional athlete. I love sports and physical activities of all kinds. I also spend a lot of time with rather sedentary activities–I’m a game developer by profession. I’ve always been fascinated by exercise and strength training from a young age. My bookshelf is filled with books about strength training, personal fitness, nutrition, and topics of that nature.

My belief in fitness is not to look like a bodybuilder or a Men’s Health cover model. I’m not against looking like that but, the reality is that it is going to take dedication that most of us just can’t afford. There are some metrics that I use to measure physical fitness like amount of weight one can lift in varying exercises relative to body weight, number of push-ups/pull-ups, time it takes to run a mile, etc. I’m most interested in building a body for go and not for show–looking good just happens to be a side-effect of having a strong, functional body.

I don’t believe in the late night As Seen on TV fitness products that promise six-pack abs by electric shock or some other ridiculous idea. I really don’t think they work. :)

Knowing that we don’t have a lot of time to set aside for our physical well-being, I like the most efficient workout routines. I’m not someone who likes to be at the gym for more than an hour. In fact, the shorter the better. The science of physical fitness is improving all the time. I consider the science to be an edge that allows us to work smarter: faster results in shorter time.

A lot of friends come to me for fitness advice but, I’m not really a personal trainer. Well, no one has paid me to train them. I do enjoy helping others with their fitness goals. Perhaps I can do some of that here as a part time personal trainer. :)
